Live-in pub jobs. Do I really want one? Most likely you have decided on live-in pub jobs after hearing experiences from friends and family, so you're probably keen on the idea and looking for some more info. Of course there are many ways to find work and survive in the UK. My experience primarily was with working and living in pubs so that's what I can write most informatively about. Before you make your decision, you might want to take this opportunity to read The naked truths behind live-in pub jobs – Stripped down and raw!
Some people do find themselves working in pubs for the wrong reasons. Many have no idea what to expect and get lured in by the prospects of free accommodation, included meals, no bills etc, without realising that it all comes at the cost of long hard -and poorly paid- work. If you think live-in pub work just isn't for you then it's not the end of the world, you may want to try some of the other options available to you. Think of it this way – most people in the UK don't work in pubs – so I'm sure there will be something else for you. Check out the sites listed below. I had a ball working and living in pubs across the UK. If I could, I would go back and do it all over again. It's a great way to meet completely new people, visit those places and countries you've always dreamed of, and basically just have the most amazing time of your life. There are a few ways of organising your live-in pub jobs. These include but are not limited to:
And my favourite:
Different options are great for different people. If you want to go into a database and apply for position after position then try out the online job advertising websites. Take your time and register your interest and upload your CV, and then just wait… It probably will work for you… eventually. Same goes for other advertised jobs, but I always think to myself: 'If I've seen these jobs, then chances are a thousand other people have already sent in their applications, and what chance do I have then?.' How much more likely is it that you'll get the job if you're the only one applying? I recommend job matching services because they deal with you directly – and more importantly they only get paid to place you in a job – there is no competition!

Free vs. Fee Charging job matching services Now if you are seriously considering parting with a Phat wad of cash to some fee charging website or organisation to guarantee you a live-in pub job on arrival, ask yourself these few questions:
If you answered 'no' or 'don't know' to any of these questions ask yourself one more question
Hopefully never! And why on Earth should you? There are many fee charging job matching services on the internet. Most of them cost around the $500 mark to set you up with a live-in pub job before you leave your home country. Now for some of you this may be well inside your budget. If you're like me however and would prefer to spend that money on a weekend trip to Barcelona or similar shortly after you arrive, then keep reading. It's the aim of these fee charging sites to entice you into using their services. They are asking for a large sum of money after all. They want you to think that they are doing all the hard work in finding the best job for you. Of course they aren't likely to tell you the truth, that finding a live-in pub job in the UK is actually not that hard, if you know how... There are companies in the UK who will set you up in live-in pub jobs for free! No cost to you whatsoever except for a phone call! They receive a finders fee from the pub when they place you. That's how it should be! Some of you more resourceful people may have found these agencies already. Pretty much the only thing a fee charging organisation can offer you is that 'job on arrival' idea, which when you think about it is really pretty silly – who wants to be working immediately after arriving in London? Not me. I met some people who had been in the country for months but hadn't even had a chance to see London because they had a job waiting for them on arrival. Shame. What I am offering here is information. All the information you need so that you can make a balanced decision for yourself. If after reading all I have to say, you still choose a fee charging site, then I understand. Really, some people just need to have that peace of mind before they fly to a foreign country – you're making a big decision after all... So do you really want a live in pub job?
